Spectrum Mobile™ Zips by Competitors With Fastest Overall Speeds for Seven Straight Quarters

Combining WiFi and Cellular, Spectrum Redefines Mobile Experience, Becomes Clear Choice for Speed-Savvy Consumers

Share Article:

STAMFORD, Conn. – Today, Spectrum Mobile announced it has delivered faster overall speeds* than any other mobile provider in its footprint for the seventh straight quarter – a milestone that reflects the company’s success at providing speed-savvy consumers with the best possible mobile experience via its converged WiFi and cellular service. With Spectrum’s faster speeds, mobile customers can stream movies and shows and play video games with less buffering, download apps quicker and shop and search online, all while at home, on the go or at their favorite local business.

For the first quarter of 2021, Spectrum Mobile customers experienced data speeds that were 43% faster than Verizon’s, 41% faster than T-Mobile’s and 29% faster than AT&T’s, based on data collected by Global Wireless Solutions and The Nielsen Co. This continues a trend that began in the third quarter of 2019 and has continued every quarter since in which Spectrum Mobile’s overall download speeds – calculated by comparing Spectrum’s average combined WiFi and cellular speeds with those of its competitors within its 41-state operating footprint – were substantially faster than the speeds received by customers of the big three carriers.

“These results show that Spectrum Mobile is the clear choice for consumers who care about speed and value from their mobile provider,” said Danny Bowman, Chief Mobile Officer for Charter Communications, which operates the Spectrum brand of broadband connectivity services. “By blending our state-of-the-art WiFi with our cellular service, including 5G and 4G LTE, we’re giving customers access to the fastest mobile service available, and doing so in a way that gives them the freedom to use their favorite devices the way they want, while saving them money.”

Why is Spectrum Mobile Faster Than Other Mobile Carriers?

Spectrum Mobile’s converged WiFi and cellular service reflects how consumers are using their mobile devices today. Where mobile communications once occurred exclusively on cellular networks, today the vast majority of mobile data usage occurs over WiFi, according to The NPD Group’s latest Data Consumption Report. With Spectrum Mobile, approximately 80% of data traffic occurs over faster WiFi, as consumers connect their devices to WiFi networks in and outside of the home, with only the remaining 20% connected to cellular networks.

No longer is WiFi just a supplement to mobile communications; it is the foundation of consumers’ everyday mobile experience. By bundling Spectrum Mobile with its Home Internet service, Advanced In-Home WiFi, and its more than 500,000 Out-of-Home WiFi access points, Charter has made WiFi an integral part of Spectrum Mobile’s services, enabling the company to offer customers cheaper data plans and speeds that are substantially faster than those received by its competitors’ customers. And, customers are responding: In addition to offering the fastest overall speeds, Spectrum Mobile has been the fastest growing mobile provider** for five consecutive quarters.
